Desire Discrepancy and Couples Therapy

In the famous words of Salt n' Pepa, Let's Talk About Sex! Joanne Flannery and Karen Washington will spend the day with you discussing the ins and outs of desire discrepancy.

Many couples entering therapy are dissatisfied with their sexual relationship. Their partner seems disinterested in sex or their partner is always pressuring them for sex. Desire discrepancy is an issue for so many couples. How can we, as couples therapists, work systemically with them on this issue to help them revive and revitalize their sexual relationship?

This comprehensive, full day training will walk you through a biopsychosocial conceptualization and assessment to interventions they use in session with couples to help clients have their best sex lives. Joanne and Karen will incorporate leading research from key researchers and theorists in the field of sex therapy. Training will include both lecture and small break-out sessions to provide an optimal learning experience.

Objectives:

  1. Learn a biopsychosocial assessment and conceptualization of desire discrepancy.
  2. Be able to identify key theorists and researchers in the field of sex therapy regarding desire discrepancy.
  3. Learn and use interventions to assist couples in dealing with desire discrepancy.
